MISSISSAUGA, ON, May 4, 2018 — More individuals, families and seniors will now have a place to call home in Peel Region. The federal and provincial governments are investing over $44 million to create 298 more affordable housing units through the Canada – Ontario Investment in Affordable Housing (IAH) agreement.

Omar Algabrha, Member of Parliament for Mississauga Centre, on behalf of the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and Minister Responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), along with the Honourable Dipika Damerla, Ontario Minister of Seniors Affairs and Member of Provincial Parliament for Mississauga East-Cooksville, on behalf of the Honourable Peter Milczyn, Ontario’s Minister of Housing and Minister Responsible for the Poverty Reduction Strategy, made the announcement today. Martin Medeiros, Region of Peel Councillor, on behalf of Frank Dale, Region of Peel Chair and John Kovac, Mississauga City Councillor, on behalf of Bonnie Crombie, Mayor of Mississauga also participated.

The announcement took place at an official groundbreaking for The Daniels Corporation’s affordable housing development at 360 City Centre Drive, which will provide 174 units of affordable rental housing, including 154 units funded by the IAH program.

Other affordable housing developments throughout Peel Region were also celebrated at the event.

• The Region of Peel Affordable Rental Housing Project will be part of the 23-acre award-winning Mississauga City Centre neighbourhood and feature pedestrian-friendly pathways, a community park and public art.
• One building of the two-tower development will include affordable units, rent-geared-to-income units and market-rate units.
• The Region of Peel also contributed more than $66 million to these projects.
• The governments of Canada and Ontario have partnered together to deliver the IAH program since 2011. Under the IAH, Ontario and the federal government are investing a total of $1.9 billion to improve access to affordable housing across Ontario.
